What to Expect During Relationship Therapy
-
You will learn to understand your conflict cycle - how each of you reacts when you feel hurt, unseen, or worried - and how those protective responses unintentionally keep the disconnection going.
Conflict is inevitable in relationships, but recognizing your conflict cycle can you help make moments of conflict more productive.
-
Relationship agreements are structured conversations about needs, expectations, boundaries, and desires in a relationship. Having intentional conversations about needs, expectations, boundaries, and desires can prevent future conflict and help you feel supported in your relationship.
If you and your partner(s) are new to non-monogamy, therapy can help guide your conversations about relationship agreements, helping you identify your needs and desires for your relationship structure.
Even if you are not new to non-monogamy, it can be helpful to revisit relationship agreements. Your needs may have changed since you started your relationship, or maybe you have realized you need clearer and more direct communication about relationship agreements. Relationship agreements can be an ongoing conversation and therapy can equip you with the tools to return to these conversations in the future.
-
Curious about non-monogamy or an open relationship? Trying to determine what form of relationship structure suits you and your partner(s)?
Therapy can help you and your partner(s) identify what you each value in relationships. Identifying what you value helps to identify what relationship structure will best align with how you want to approach relationships.
If you and your partner(s) have differing needs and values, therapy can help you find areas of compromise or ways that you can support each other’s differing needs.

Hi, I’m Andy (they/them)
I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I provide sessions in person in Sacramento and online across California. I am passionate about helping people build authentic, connected, and affirming relationships.
I specialize in working with queer and trans individuals, couples, and non-monogamous relationships, supporting them as they navigate challenges of identity, sex and intimacy, relationships, political stressors, and life’s tough moments.
I value authentically showing up as myself, which means I’ll show you my personality, share my sense of humor with you, and also sit with you in moments of pain. I hope that authentically showing up as myself empowers you to authentically be yourself.
